The Norwalk Islands

<< UPRIVER     (19)     RETURN >>

Out in Long Island Sound, just one mile beyond the mouth of Norwalk Harbor, is a string of islands that have been made into a national wildlife refuge. At the west end is Sheffield Island, with an old, historic lighthouse at its western tip. It is connected (except at high tide) to Shea or Ram Island. Further to the east is Chimmons Island.

These are popular destination spots for boaters during the summer months, and an account of a trip by sea kayak can be found here. They can also be visited by motor vessel on harbor tours sponsored by The Maritime Aquarium and the Norwalk Seaport Association.
